Crochet Gerbera Daisy Pattern with 15 Petals and a Loop Center

· admin

This crochet gerbera daisy pattern has fifteen narrow yellow petals and a raised center worked in brown, soft yellow and orange. The orange chain loops make a small textured ring between the center and the outer petals. A green receptacle supports the bloom from behind, and a wrapped wire stem holds the finished flower upright.

Materials

  • Cotton No. 8 in yellow, soft yellow, orange and brown, with dark green wool for the backing.
  • A 1.90 mm crochet hook; use the millimeter size rather than a regional letter label.
  • 0.6 mm floral wire.
  • Green floral tape, scissors, a yarn needle and wire cutters.
  • Fabric glue for the center-to-receptacle join.

The source does not specify a numerical gauge, yarn quantity or finished flower diameter. Keep the same thread and tension across matching parts; changing thread size changes the finished dimensions.

Stitches and Pattern Notes

US crochet terms are used throughout. Ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet. An increase places two stitches in one stitch; a decrease combines stitches. The source legend uses the words “2 stitches together” for an increase into one stitch. Those increases are written here as 2 sc or 2 dc in the same stitch. A cluster, when specified, is closed together. Crab stitch is reverse single crochet. The source rates this project five stars out of five. Its petal and center charts are included because the small center loops and dense attachment area are easier to track when both written directions and placement are visible.

Make the Green Receptacle

Round / stepInstructions
FoundationCh 5 and join into a ring.
1Ch 1 and put 2 sc into each foundation chain. (10)
2Sc around. (10)
3Repeat (2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc) five times. (15)
4Sc around, then fasten off. (15)

Crochet Fifteen Yellow Petals

Join yellow. For each petal in Round 5, sc into one receptacle stitch, ch 15, then work back along the chain from the second chain from the hook: 1 sc, 1 dc and 12 tr. Sc into the same base stitch where that petal began. Move to the next receptacle stitch and repeat. Make fifteen petals, join with a sl st and fasten off.

Count fourteen return stitches per petal: 1 sc + 1 dc + 12 tr. The two base sc belonging to one petal sit in the same green base stitch. That differs from a construction that advances one base stitch halfway through the petal. Use one complete petal per each of the fifteen receptacle stitches.

Work the Three-Color Center

Round / stepInstructions
FoundationWith brown, ch 5 and join into a ring.
1Ch 1 and work 2 sc in each foundation chain. (10)
2Change to soft yellow. Repeat (2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc) five times. (15)
3Sc around with soft yellow. (15)
4Repeat (2 sc in one stitch, 2 sc) five times. (20)
5Change to orange. In each base stitch, work (sc, ch 7, sc in the same base stitch). Repeat around, join with a sl st and fasten off.

The final round makes a chain loop from each of the twenty center-edge stitches. The return sc goes back into the same stitch as the first sc of that loop. Let the chain loops stand around the center instead of pulling them across its face. Keep the brown area visible in the middle and the orange loops outside the soft yellow ring.

Attach the Wire and Flower Center

  1. Insert the support wire through the center of the green receptacle. Bring it out toward the edge of a petal base, following the source drawing.
  2. Bend the wire and twist its matching ends below the receptacle. Check that the flower remains face up and the wire join sits behind it.
  3. Apply fabric glue along the receptacle edge where the separate center will sit. Place the center over the petal roots, keeping the orange loops visible.
  4. Let the glued attachment dry. Wrap the stem wire in green floral tape, then arrange the fifteen petals around the center.

Questions About the Gerbera

Are the orange loops extra outer petals?

They form the textured edge of the separate center. The flower still has fifteen long yellow petals attached to its receptacle.

Can I skip the center increases?

Those rounds establish the twenty attachment points for the loop round. Skipping them changes both the center size and the placement of its orange loops.
