Crochet Garden Garland Pattern with 9 Flower Motifs

· admin

This crochet garden garland pattern brings nine different flower motifs together on a long strand. Some are simple two-round blooms; others add loops, scallops or a raised center. The Paintbox Yarns design uses small amounts of DK yarn, making it a practical project for combining leftover colors into one coordinated decoration.

Stitches and Pattern Notes

US terms are used here. Ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, MR = magic ring, inc = 2 stitches in one stitch, and dec = a decrease across two stitches. BLO means back loop only and FLO front loop only. The source prints UK stitches followed by US equivalents. Everything below is converted to US terms. A starting ch 1 does not count as a stitch. Keep the stated ch 3 or ch 4 when these form part of a petal or count as a tall stitch.

Flowers 1 and 2: Tall-Stitch Petals

Flower 1 — make 4

With A, ch 4 and join into a ring. Round 1: ch 1, 10 sc in the ring, sl st to the first sc. Fasten off A and join B. Round 2: ch 4, then (4 tr, ch 4, sl st) in the same base stitch. In each remaining sc work (sl st, ch 4, 4 tr, ch 4, sl st). Fasten off. There are ten petal groups.

Flower 2 — make 4

With A, ch 4 and join into a ring. Round 1: ch 1, 6 sc in the ring, join. With B, work (ch 4, 4 tr, ch 4, sl st) in the first stitch, then (sl st, ch 4, 4 tr, ch 4, sl st) in each of the other five sc. Fasten off. This version has six petals.

Flowers 3 and 4: Four-Petal Motifs

Flower 3 — make 5

With A, ch 4 and join into a ring. Round 1: ch 1, 8 sc in the ring, join. With B, ch 4 and work 2 tr into the first base sc. In the next sc work 2 tr, ch 4 and sl st. Repeat the following three more times across the remaining six sc: (sl st, ch 4, 2 tr) in the next sc, then (2 tr, ch 4, sl st) in the following sc. Fasten off. Each petal spans two center stitches.

Flower 4 — make 4

Work the first two rounds as for Flower 3. Join the petal round to the first sc of Round 1. Change to C. In front of the petals, work four ch-4 loops anchored at the base between each pair of petals, joining the last loop at the end-of-round slip stitch. In the following round, ch 1 and work (sc, 3 hdc) into each ch-4 loop. Join and fasten off.

Flower 5: Shaped Flower with a Separate Center

Make two. With A, ch 2. Round 1: 8 sc in the second chain, join. Round 2: ch 1 and inc in each sc (16). Round 3: ch 1, 16 sc, join. Rounds 4 and 5 repeat Round 3.

Round 6: ch 8, skip the base stitch and the next three stitches, sl st in the next stitch. Work (ch 8, skip three stitches, sl st in next stitch) twice, then ch 8, skip three stitches and sl st into the starting base. Round 7: work (sc, 2 hdc, dc, tr, dc, 2 hdc, sc) into each ch-8 loop. Join and fasten off.

For the center in B: ch 2; make 5 sc in the second chain and join. Ch 1 and work 3 sc in each stitch (15), join and fasten off. Sew the center inside the flower.

Shared Center for Flowers 6, 7 and 8

With A, ch 5 and join into a ring. Round 1: ch 3, counting as hdc plus ch 1, then (hdc in the ring, ch 1) nine times. Join into the second starting chain. There are ten hdc separated by ten ch-1 spaces.

Flower 6 — make 4

Join B in a ch-1 space. Ch 3, counting as dc, and dc in the same space; work (ch 1, 2 dc in the next ch-1 space) nine times, ch 1 and join. Join C in a ch-1 space. Ch 1, sc in that space, (ch 5, sc in the next ch-1 space) nine times, ch 5 and join to the first sc. In the next round, sl st into a ch-5 loop; work (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) in each loop. Join and fasten off.

Flower 7 — make 3

After the shared center, join B in a ch-1 space. Ch 1, sc in that space, (ch 5, sc in next ch-1 space) nine times, ch 5 and join to the first sc. Fasten off, leaving the ten open loops as the outer edge.

Flower 8 — make 4

Work the shared center and the B round of Flower 6. Join C in a ch-1 space. Ch 1 and work (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) into each of the ten ch-1 spaces. Join to the first sc and fasten off.

Flower 9: Two-Color Scalloped Flower

Thread and Finish the Garland

  1. Weave in each motif’s yarn tails and arrange the flowers in the order you want.
  2. Use the source photo as a placement guide and thread the flowers onto the string.
  3. Space the motifs evenly before securing the ends. If the strand is shorter than the source example, reduce the number of repeats rather than stretching the cord.
  4. Flatten the petals gently and check the front of every motif before hanging the finished garland.
