Crochet Calla Lily Pattern with a Wired Spathe and Yellow Center
· admin
This crochet calla lily pattern uses one broad white piece curved around a slender yellow center. The white spathe is worked outward from a small ring, then edged over wire so it can be shaped into the familiar folded outline. Unlike a lily made from separate long petals, this design depends on one continuous piece and the placement of its central tube.

Materials
- Cotton No. 8 in white and soft yellow.
- A 1.90 mm crochet hook; use the millimeter size rather than a regional letter label.
- 0.6 mm wire for the spathe edge and 0.8 mm wire for the center and stem.
- Green floral tape, scissors, a yarn needle and wire cutters.
The source does not specify a numerical gauge, yarn quantity or finished flower diameter. Keep the same thread and tension across matching parts; changing thread size changes the finished dimensions.
Stitches and Pattern Notes
US crochet terms are used throughout. Ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet. An increase places two stitches in one stitch; a decrease combines stitches. The source legend uses the words “2 stitches together” for an increase into one stitch. Those increases are written here as 2 sc or 2 dc in the same stitch. A cluster, when specified, is closed together. Crab stitch is reverse single crochet. The starting ch 3 in a dc round acts as its first dc. Use the original chart below to track the increases and the change to the pointed edging. The printed source uses “petal” for the white spathe.
Crochet the White Spathe
| Round / step | Instructions |
|---|---|
| 1 | Ch 5 and join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 1, then put 2 sc in each of the five foundation chains. Join with a sl st. |
| 2 | Ch 3 and dc in the same starting stitch. Work 2 dc into each remaining stitch and join. |
| 3 | Repeat the preceding dc-increase round and join. |
| 4 | Begin with ch 3 and dc in the same stitch. Continue with the charted sequence of 1 dc, then 2 dc in one stitch around the circle. Join. |
| 5 | Begin with ch 3 and dc in the same stitch. Continue with the charted sequence of 2 dc, then 2 dc in one stitch around the circle. Join. |
| 6 | Hold the 0.6 mm wire along the edge. Work 39 sc, 3 dc in the same stitch for the point, then 39 sc, enclosing the wire. |
| 7 | Sc around the edge. Join and fasten off. The source offers crab stitch as an alternative final edge. |

Treat the initial increase in Rounds 4 and 5 as the start of the repeating arrangement shown in the chart. It is not an extra increase added after a complete circuit. The source does not print totals for those rounds; the chart is retained rather than substituting guessed totals. Keep the edging wire inside the stitches and leave its ends available at the base for assembly.
Make the Yellow Center
Ch 5 with soft yellow and join into a ring. Work 2 sc in each foundation chain to establish a ten-stitch tube. Continue in sc around the tube for a further 180 sc, following the source instruction. Keep the tube narrow rather than increasing to 180 stitches in one round. Join with a sl st and fasten off.
The source associates the tube with approximately 6 cm. Because it is worked continuously with ten stitches around, that measurement describes its length, not the diameter of an expanding disc. Compare the center with the spathe before securing the two pieces.
Assemble and Shape the Calla Lily
- Pass the 0.8 mm wire through the base of the yellow tube. Fold the wire and twist its ends together below the center.
- Position the center at the lower part of the white spathe. Keep the yellow tip above the fold of the white fabric.
- Bring the corresponding wires together and twist them to make one stem. Curve the lower edges of the white piece inward around the yellow center.
- Shape the spathe gently with its edging wire, retaining the pointed top. Wrap the assembled stem in green floral tape and finish the ends neatly.

Finishing Checks
View the flower from the front and side before wrapping the last section of tape. The yellow tube should remain visible and the white fabric should curve around it without being pulled tightly into a closed cone. If the outline looks uneven, adjust the wire a little at a time instead of stretching the crochet stitches.
Questions About This Calla Lily
Is the yellow center stuffed?
The source uses a narrow crochet tube supported by wire and does not call for stuffing. Keep the tubular construction rather than replacing it with a flat yellow circle.
Does the white piece need separate petals?
No. It is a single charted spathe. Its broad shape, wired edge and final fold create the flower.
