Mini Crochet Wild Rose Flower with Calyx and Leaf
· admin
This mini crochet wild rose has a bright pink corolla, a small green calyx and a branched leaf attached to a thread-wrapped stem. It is the separate flower accessory from the supplied Wild Rose Fairy pattern. The corolla uses a three-round stitch chart; the original chart is included below so the stitch placement stays visible alongside the written assembly instructions.

Mini Crochet Wild Rose Materials
- Fine cotton crochet thread in bright pink and green; light yellow thread for the stamens. The source also uses two strands of embroidery floss for the small corolla.
- A 0.9 mm or 1 mm hook, or a hook suitable for the chosen thread.
- A 12 cm length of thin 0.2-0.3 mm wire.
- A fine needle, scissors, wire cutters and glue stick.
US Crochet Terms and Preparation
Ch means chain, sl st slip stitch, sc single crochet, hdc half double crochet, dc double crochet and tr treble crochet. An increase puts two stitches into one stitch; a decrease combines two stitches. For this chart, the plain cross is sc, the tall symbol with one bar is dc and the tall symbol with two bars is tr. Joined V-shaped stitch symbols indicate multiple stitches in one base stitch. Ovals are chains and the small solid mark is a slip stitch.
Crochet the Pink Corolla from the Chart
Begin at the central ring and follow the numbered rounds outward. The inner round has five sc. Work the tall-stitch groups and separating sc exactly where shown in Round 2, then follow Round 3 around the petal edges. Use the arrows to find the beginning of each outer round. Fasten off with tails long enough to hide at the back of the flower.

The chart is the corolla pattern, not a separate decoration. Keep it open while working so an increase into one stitch is not confused with a decrease across two stitches. Gently flatten the flower and check the scalloped outline before adding the stamens.
Add Seven Thread Stamens
Cut seven pieces of light yellow thread approximately 3.5 cm long. Fold one piece in half, draw its folded loop through the flower center and first round, pass the two ends through the loop and tighten. Repeat around the center with the other six pieces, then trim the stamen ends evenly.

Make the Small Green Calyx
Ch 3. Work a sl st in the second chain from the hook and a sl st in the first chain. Repeat the following four times: ch 2, sl st in the first of those chains and sl st in the preceding central chain. The chart below shows the five small points around the center. Leave the thread tails for assembly.

Crochet the Branched Leaf
Ch 6. Counting back along that chain from the hook, work sl st in the fifth chain, hdc in the fourth chain and sl st in the third chain. Ch 4; work sl st in the third chain, hdc in the second chain, then sl st in the first chain and in the preceding chain of the main stem. Ch 3; work sl st in the second chain and hdc in the first chain. Finish with sl st in the three remaining main-stem chains. Use the original diagram below to keep the short branches on the correct sides.

Assemble and Wrap the Stem
- Pass the 12 cm wire through loops at the back of the flower center. Fold it in half and twist the ends into a stem.
- Slide the calyx along the wire and press it against the flower back. Lay all thread tails down the stem.
- Wrap green thread tightly around the wire. At approximately 2 cm below the flower, add the leaf and continue wrapping around its tail and the wire together.
- After another 1 cm, trim the non-working tails except one green tail for tying. Continue wrapping to about 4.5 cm in total and tie the green ends.
- Trim the wire about 2-3 mm beyond the knot, bend the end upward against the stem and press it flat. Trim thread tails to about 5 mm and secure the ends with a little glue.
Questions Before You Finish
Is this the large five-petal fairy hat?
No. This tutorial uses the separate small rose, calyx and leaf on pages 15-17 of the supplied PDF. The large hat uses a different construction.
Can I work only from written directions?
The corolla is chart-led in the original source. Its chart is included in the article, while the calyx, branched leaf and stem assembly also have written instructions. No unverified full corolla transcription is substituted.
