Mini Crochet Bluebell Flower with Five Pointed Petals
· admin
This mini crochet bluebell flower uses fine lilac thread to create a narrow cup with five pointed tips. It is a different construction from a double-crochet bluebell: the cup is worked in single crochet and the triangular points are added with short chains. The separate flower accessory from the supplied Bluebell Fairy pattern is the project covered here.

Materials for the Mini Crochet Bluebell Flower
- Fine cotton thread in dark lilac and green, plus light yellow thread for the flower center. The source uses cotton labeled 10 g / 87 m.
- A 0.9 mm or 1 mm hook.
- One 12 cm piece of thin 0.2-0.3 mm wire.
- A fine needle, scissors, wire cutters and glue stick.
US Crochet Terms and Preparation
Ch means chain, sl st slip stitch, sc single crochet, hdc half double crochet, dc double crochet and tr treble crochet. An increase puts two stitches into one stitch; a decrease combines two stitches. Work the cup in continuous rounds and mark the beginning. Inc means two sc into one stitch. The source supplies the cup stitch counts, but no separate finished flower diameter.
Work the Bluebell Cup
| Round / step | Instructions |
|---|---|
| 1 | Ch 2 and work 5 sc into the first chain. (5) |
| 2 | Inc in every stitch. (10) |
| 3-5 | Sc in each stitch for three rounds. (10 each round) |
| 6 | Repeat (1 sc, inc) five times. (15) |
| 7-8 | Sc in each stitch for two rounds. Finish Round 8 with a sl st. (15 each round) |

Add the Five Triangular Points
For each point, ch 4. Starting in the second chain from the hook, work sl st, sc and dc down the three available chains. Anchor the point with a sl st in the fourth base sc counted from the beginning of the point, as shown in the source chart. Repeat around the cup to make five points and fasten off.
In that base count, include the stitch where the point starts: each new anchor is three base stitches farther around the fifteen-stitch rim. This gives five evenly spaced points. Do not move four additional stitches between points, which would overshoot the rim.

Make the Yellow Flower Center
Use light yellow thread to make the five filaments described in the source. Tie a long yellow piece around two short pieces so the thread ends form the small center. Pull the long yellow tail through the opening in the base of the bluebell. The filaments should remain visible inside the cup, with the long tail behind it.
Add and Wrap the Wire Stem
- Pass the 12 cm wire through loops at the back of the flower center. Fold it in half and twist the two ends together. Lay the yellow tail along the wire.
- Begin wrapping green thread around the stem, keeping the wraps tight and next to one another. Retain a green tail for tying.
- After about 1 cm of wrapping, trim the yellow tail once it is held securely beneath the wraps.
- Continue to approximately 5 cm of total wrapping. Tie the green ends together, cut the wire 2-3 mm beyond the knot and bend that short end back against the stem.
- Trim the thread tails to approximately 5 mm and apply a small amount of glue to their ends. Bend the stem gently so the flower hangs in the position you want.

Check the Bell Shape
The closed end should stay narrow while the last two fifteen-stitch rounds create a wider opening. If the rim twists, check that every triangular point uses the same chain return and advances three base stitches. Shape the wire only after the wrapping and final knot are secure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I replace the wire with a yarn tail?
The original accessory uses a wire stem to hold its position. A loose yarn tail will not behave like that stem, so the assembly described here retains the source wire construction.
Is the fairy doll included?
This article covers the small bluebell accessory on pages 14-16, including its flower cup and stem. It does not include the separate doll or its large hat.
