Stitches and pattern notes
Unless stated otherwise, this article uses US crochet terms. ch = chain; sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; inc = 2 stitches in one stitch; dec = work 2 stitches together; MR = magic ring; BLO/FLO = back/front loop only. Numbers in the final column are the finished stitch counts.
The source starts several pieces with an unnumbered magic-ring setup, followed by round 1. That numbering is preserved here. An instruction to put two sc in the same stitch is an increase. Turning chains do not count. Check the individual costume color before starting each body. Corrections to impossible counts or duplicate labels are identified below.
Shared head foundation
Cream setup: 6 sc in MR. Round 1, inc × 6 = 12; round 2, (sc, inc) × 6 = 18; round 3, (2 sc, inc) × 6 = 24; round 4, (3 sc, inc) × 6 = 30; round 5, (4 sc, inc) × 6 = 36. The eyes sit between source rounds 7 and 8, seven stitches apart. Secure them before the head narrows.
| Round / row | Instructions | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Red-haired and blonde sisters | R6–8: 36 sc. R9: (4 sc, dec) × 6 = 30; R10: (3 sc, dec) × 6 = 24; R11: (2 sc, dec) × 6 = 18; R12: (sc, dec) × 6 = 12; R13: (2 sc, dec) × 3 = 9. | 9 at neck |
| Black-haired sister | R6–10: 36 sc. R11–15: use the same five decrease rounds listed above, ending with (2 sc, dec) × 3. | 9 at neck |
The final source head line prints six repeats of (2 sc, dec) for a nine-stitch result. Three repeats consume the existing 12 stitches and make nine; that correction is used here. Stuff the head before continuing into the body.
Red-haired sister: body and base
| Round / row | Instructions | Count |
|---|---|---|
| 14–18 | Purple: 9 sc | 9 |
| 19 | Inc × 9 | 18 |
| 20 | (sc, inc) × 9 | 27 |
| 21–25 | Sc around | 27 |
Base: setup 6 sc in MR; rounds 1–3 increase evenly to 12, 18 and 24. The source’s base has 24 stitches while the skirt rim has 27. Sew the base inside the lower skirt, easing the three-stitch difference around the seam instead of forcing a one-to-one join. Keep the outer skirt edge visible.
Green cape and sleeves
Cape top: ch 15; row 1, 14 sc; row 2, (sc, ch 1) × 14; row 3, (sc into next gap, ch 1) × 13, sc. Cape bottom: ch 15; rows 1–2, (sc, ch 1) × 14; rows 3–4, (sc, ch 2) × 14; row 5, (sc, ch 2) × 13, sc. On later rows, place sc into the previous chain gaps. Sew the top foundation around body round 19 and the bottom around round 20, closing the layers around the body and tacking the corners as pictured.
Two sleeves: green setup 5 sc in MR; R1, 5 sc; R2, inc × 2, 3 sc = 7; R3, sc, inc × 2, 4 sc = 9; R4, 9 sc. Two cream arms: setup 4 sc in MR, then two rounds of 4 sc. Insert an arm into each sleeve and secure.
Orange curls
For each curl, ch 31. Across the 30 working chains repeat (inc, sc) fifteen times, producing 45 stitches. Make 16 curls: arrange ten across the main hair area and three on each side. Pin the full hairstyle before sewing so the face stays visible.

Black-haired sister: body and base
| Round / row | Instructions | Count |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | Orange: 9 sc | 9 |
| 17 | (2 sc, inc) × 3 | 12 |
| 18 | (sc, inc) × 6 | 18 |
| 19–20 | Sc around | 18 |
| 21 | (sc, dec) × 6 | 12 |
| 22 | Burgundy: (sc, inc) × 6 | 18 |
| 23 | (2 sc, inc) × 6 | 24 |
| 24 | (3 sc, inc) × 6 | 30 |
| 25 | (4 sc, inc) × 6 | 36 |
| 26–28 | Sc around | 36 |
Base: setup 6 sc in MR, then increase by six per round to 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36. Stuff and sew the 36-stitch base to the body.
Black hair cap and spiral
| Round / row | Instructions | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Setup / 1 | 4 sc in MR; R1: 4 sc | 4 |
| 2 | Sc, inc, sc, inc | 6 |
| 3–4 | Sc around | 6 |
| 5 | Inc × 6 | 12 |
| 6–7 | Sc around | 12 |
| 8 | (sc, inc) × 6 | 18 |
| 9–10 | Sc around | 18 |
| 11 | Inc × 18 | 36 |
| 12 | Sc around | 36 |
| 13–15 | 9 sc, hdc, 25 dc, hdc | 36 |
Make a long black texture cord with ch 170 and 169 sc back along the chain. Spiral it around the hair cap and sew it down, following the photographed coil. Add a light-purple streak. Shape the cap on the head before tightening its seam.
Arms and layered wraps
Arms: cream setup 4 sc in MR and R1, 4 sc. Change to orange for R2, 4 sc; R3, inc × 4 = 8; R4, 8 sc. These labels are consecutive here because the source duplicates “R2.” Make two.
Purple wrap: ch 10; row 1, 9 sc; row 2, (sc, ch 3, skip 1) × 4, sc; ch 3, turn. Row 3, (sc in gap, ch 3) × 4, ch 3, sc to finish the far edge. Make a green wrap the same way and add a fourth row of (sc in gap, ch 3) × 4, sc in the last gap. Pin the green layer first, then the purple layer slightly to the left, adjusting edge tacks to the source’s draped shape.

Blonde sister: body, skirt and belt
| Round / row | Instructions | Count |
|---|---|---|
| 14–17 | Red: 9 sc | 9 |
| 18 | (2 sc, inc) × 3 | 12 |
| 19 | Sc around | 12 |
| 20 | (sc, inc) × 6 | 18 |
| 21 | Sc around | 18 |
| 22 | (2 sc, inc) × 6 | 24 |
| 23 | Sc around | 24 |
| 24 | (3 sc, inc) × 6 | 30 |
Base: begin with 6 sc in MR, then increase evenly to 12, 18, 24 and 30. The setup ring is implied rather than stated in the source. Sew the base to the body and draw the center in slightly to shape it.
Purple skirt topper: ch 17; row 1, 16 sc; row 2, (sc, ch 1) × 16; row 3, (sc into gap, ch 1) × 16; row 4, (sc into gap, ch 1) × 15, sc. Sew the foundation between body rounds 19 and 20. Make a black belt beginning with ch 15, adjusting the chain length to fit the finished waist.
Four blonde hair pieces
- First long piece: ch 30; (inc, sc) × 10, then 9 sc.
- Second long piece: ch 30; (inc, sc) × 10, then sc, sc, hdc, dc, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc.
- Two short pieces: ch 20; (inc, sc) × 5, then 9 sc.
Start each piece in the second chain. Place the two long pieces and two short curls around the face, pinning before sewing.
Burgundy hood and cape
Hood setup: 6 sc in MR; rounds 1–5 increase evenly to 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36. R6: 5 sc, inc, (5 dc, dc inc) × 4, 5 sc, inc = 42. R7: 6 sc, inc, (6 dc, dc inc) × 4, 6 sc, inc = 48. R8: 8 sc, 32 dc, 8 sc = 48. R9: 8 sc, 32 dc, hdc, sl st, then stop, leaving six old stitches unworked. This final row is partial. Edge the bottom with sc and sew it to the back/base of the head, keeping the upper hood loose.
Cape: ch 7. Rows 1–2 use (sc, ch 1) × 6; row 3 uses (sc, ch 2) × 6; row 4 uses (sc, ch 2) × 7; row 5 uses (sc, ch 3) × 6, sc. Work into the preceding gaps. To create the source’s extra seventh repeat on row 4, share a gap near the center as an editorial spacing clarification, then distribute the last row across the widened edge. Sew the starting chain at the same back-neck point as the hood. Arms: cream setup 4 sc in MR, then change to red for four rounds of 4 sc. Make two.

Finish the trio
Secure each base after stuffing. Attach the arms symmetrically, add the costume layers, then sew on the hair and headwear. Compare the sisters side by side: their head profiles and costume heights differ intentionally. Use small tacking stitches on the wraps so the openwork remains visible rather than flattening it into a solid band.
Tips for a neat finish
- Keep one labeled bag of pieces for each sister.
- Count the neck decreases before beginning the body.
- Pin hair, cape and arms together before final seams.
Frequently asked questions
Are all three bodies identical?
No. Their skirt shaping, bases and costume colors differ; follow the separate body tables.
Why does one base have fewer stitches than the skirt?
The red-haired sister’s 24-stitch base sits inside the 27-stitch skirt rim, with the difference eased around the seam.
