Modern Crochet Baby Slip-On Sneakers with Double Soles

· admin

Modern crochet baby slip on sneakers with layered white soles

These crochet baby slip-on sneakers use two white soles per shoe, joined into a thicker base. A black contrast line separates that base from the colored front and heel. The front flap overlaps the heel sides, so the finished style has no long laces. This article follows the 0–3 month reference size; larger source counts are not substituted halfway through.

Materials, Gauge and Size

DK / worsted-style yarn in white, black and an upper color; the source suggests Drops Merino Extra Fine and a 3.5 mm hook. Gauge is 18 sc × 19 rows per 10 cm / 4 in. Small reference length is 8.5 cm / 3.37 in. Use a needle, scissors and markers. The source gives no measured total yarn amount. Make four matching sole pieces for the pair and check their size before joining.

Stitches and Pattern Notes

US crochet terms: ch = chain; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; tr = treble crochet; sl st = slip stitch; st = stitch; sp = space; BLO = back loop only; inc = 2 stitches in one stitch. Sc2tog, hdc2tog and dc2tog combine two neighboring stitches into one. A number before a stitch tells you how many consecutive stitches to work. Parentheses followed by a repeat number describe one complete group repeated that many times.

Step 1: Make Four Sole Pieces

Row / roundInstructionsCount / note
1Ch 10. From second chain work 2 hdc, 7 hdc, 6 hdc in last ch; opposite side 7 hdc and 2 hdc in starting chain. Do not join.24
2Inc-hdc in each of first 2 sts, 7 hdc, inc-hdc in each of next 6 sts, 7 hdc, inc-hdc in last 2 sts.34
32 hdc, inc-hdc in each of next 3 sts, 7 hdc, (inc-hdc, hdc) six times, 7 hdc, inc-hdc in last 3 sts.46

Step 2: Join the Sole Layers

After each sole’s third round, dc in the next stitch and sl st in the next to move the working point toward the heel center. Finish two pieces normally. On each of the other two pieces, leave a tail about 1.5 m / 60 in long for joining. Pair the soles with their wrong sides together and heels aligned. Slip stitch through both layers around all 46 edge positions, starting at the center back. Fasten off neatly.

Join white with a standing sc at the heel and work one sc per joined position (46). Next round: ch 1, sc2tog, 42 sc, sc2tog and join (44). Finish the white yarn. Add a relaxed black surface slip-stitch line around those 44 positions. The source has conflicting numbers in its accent-line prose; use the actual 44-stitch rim once around rather than adding extra positions.

Step 3: Shape the Front

From the heel-center marker, count to the twelfth position and join the upper color in FLO. Work a standing sc, sc2tog ten times and sc in the final front-section stitch; turn (12). Row 2: ch 1 and 12 sc; turn. Row 3: ch 1 and six sc2tog; turn (6). Row 4: ch 1 and three sc2tog (3). Fasten off.

The front uses twenty-two base positions between its side anchors. Keep it centered opposite the heel marker. Work into the front loops of the black line for the initial pickup, leaving the remaining loops available along the sides.

Step 4: Add the Flap and Heel

Centered across the front top, rejoin and pick up five sc positions, including the short side-edge pickup positions beside the three-stitch top. Work three rows of five sc in total, ch 1 and turn between rows, then fasten off.

For the rear section, join black in FLO at one side and work 23 sc around the heel, using the source’s shared side-edge anchor at the overlap rather than adding stitches into the sole. Row 2: ch 1, 8 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 2 hdc, 8 sc (23); turn. Row 3: ch 1 and sl st across 23 positions. Finish the yarn. The taller center stitches shape the heel curve.

Step 5: Edge and Assemble

Join the upper color at the first front side. Work the starting sc, sc2tog twice along the first side edge, 2 sc in the first flap corner, 3 sc across the flap, 2 sc in the opposite flap corner, sc2tog twice down the other side and sc in the last position. Finish.

Overlap the front slightly over the rear section and sew the two side overlaps securely. On each side, attach a small ch-5 strip from the upper near the sole, keeping the source’s three-stitch spacing for its second anchor. These short strips are sewn on as details rather than left as loose ties. Weave every tail, check the opening and make the second sneaker to match.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sole pieces make a pair? Four: two layered pieces for each sneaker.

Why does the contrast stripe have 44 positions? The white rim decreases from 46 to 44 before the black line is worked.

Are laces needed? No. The overlapping front and heel create the slip-on style shown in the reference.
