Cotton Crochet Baby Sneakers with Velcro Straps
· admin
These cotton crochet baby sneakers have a white reinforced sole, a shaped colored upper and a separate tongue under the fastening strap. Each shoe uses two sole pieces joined together. This guide selects the newborn column from the source’s four-size pattern so the counts and mirrored strap placements stay consistent.

Materials and gauge
Fingering cotton, approximately 105–155 yd across source sizes; 1.75 mm hook, markers, needle, measuring tape, hook-and-loop tape and scissors. Source yarn: Hobbii Rainbow Deluxe 8/4. Gauge: 30 sc × 33 rounds per 10 cm.
Check the fit before making four soles
The newborn source uses an eighteen-chain foundation for an approximately 8.5 cm outsole. The other sizes use chains 20, 22 and 24, but their upper and strap instructions also change. Make one newborn sole first, block as appropriate for the cotton and measure it before repeating three more times.
The source counts its height-adjustment chains in the round totals. This differs from many amigurumi patterns. Do not add an uncounted extra dc beside every starting chain, or the double soles will stop matching at the heel.
Reinforce the sole
Work around both sides of the chain with dc concentrated at the rounded ends. The newborn totals are 42 after round 1, 52 after the mixed sc/hdc/dc increase round, and 70 after round 3. Round 4 is hdc at 70. Use the source photographs for the first and last anchors around the foundation chain.
Make four identical pieces. Place two wrong sides inward and slip stitch through their corresponding edge stitches. The source also adds a line of slip stitches along the foundation center to keep the two layers together. Repeat for the other shoe, then compare their outlines.

Build the sidewall and shaped upper
Start at the middle of the heel. The newborn sidewall has three 70-stitch sc rounds, with the first worked into the designated front loops of the joining chain. Add the colored slip-stitch line around its top, leaving the required loops for the upper.
| Upper round | Newborn total | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 70 | Pick up the colored upper from the stitching chain. |
| 2 | 58 | Twelve dc2tog shape the toe. |
| 3 | 52 | Six further dc2tog narrow the opening. |
| 4 | 52 | Mixed stitch heights and seven FLO sc establish the tongue position. |
Keep the twelve-decrease group at the front. If it drifts sideways, recheck the heel start and the round join rather than moving the tongue afterward to hide the error.
Add the tongue
Turn the shoe inside out and begin in the free half-loops left at the front. The newborn tongue expands through source totals 8, 9, 9, 11, 11, 13 and 13. Its last shaped row uses 2 sc, hdc, 6 dc, hdc and 2 sc. Edge the top with sc, adding two at each corner. The original tongue photographs show the half-loop pickup clearly.
Mirror the straps
For the left newborn shoe, the source begins the fastening tab in the twentieth stitch counted to the right of the heel center. For the right, begin in the sixteenth stitch counted to the left. Their first rows reverse the sc/hdc/dc sequence to mirror the slope. Work the source’s twelve-row newborn strap and sc around its edge.
Fit the hook-and-loop pieces after both straps lie evenly across the tongues. The source uses textile glue; secure sewing is an alternative finishing choice when suitable for the tape. Keep every closure piece firmly attached and inspect it before wear.

Finish the sneaker outline
Add the white surface-slip-stitch line around the upper and straps shown on the final source page. Weave in the tails without leaving a hard knot inside the shoe. These are soft handmade baby shoes; check measured fit and the interior seams rather than relying only on the newborn label.
Frequently asked questions
Why are four soles made?
Two layers reinforce each shoe, so a pair needs four separate sole pieces.
Can I use the next size’s foundation only?
No. The source also changes sidewall, upper and strap details for larger sizes.
Where is the tongue attached?
It begins in free half-loops at the front of the upper, after toe shaping.
