Top 8 Crochet Bandana Patterns with Scallops, Picots and Lace

Summer Lace Bandana crochet bandana by Carmen / Annie Design Crochet

Crochet Pattern Nest / Curated pattern guide

A bandana's edge can change the whole silhouette: tiny picots make a crisp outline, while shells and scallops give a softer finish. These eight designs put that choice in the foreground. Some use lace in the main fabric as well as around the edge, so compare both rather than choosing by the border alone. Read the transition from the triangle to the finishing round before starting the main body.

Plan your project before the first stitch

1. Choose deliberately

Check the final body row or round carefully. A decorative border may need a specific stitch arrangement to sit evenly. Work to the designer's stated stopping point before deciding that the body is ready to edge.

2. Check the working details

Sample a few border repeats if you are uncertain about the look. Use the same yarn and hook plan as the main project. This is a small way to compare a sharp picot with a fuller shell without remaking a whole bandana.

3. Finish with a plan

Keep the border relaxed and balanced. Too much tension can pull in the triangle; too little can create an unintended wave. Compare the finished edge with the designer's instructions and use the recommended blocking approach.

Once you have chosen a source, read its complete instructions and materials list. Check the terminology, the finished measurement and the point where the ties are included. Make your first version close enough to the original plan that you can understand what your own yarn changes. Keep any adjustment notes beside the project so that the result is repeatable.

Questions before you start

Can I add any scalloped border to a plain bandana?

A border needs to fit the available stitches and corners. Use a pattern written for the finish you want, or plan a separate swatch before adapting an existing project.

Is a contrasting edge required?

Only when you want that color effect. Some designers use contrast to show the border clearly, while a single-color version can emphasize the shape of the stitch instead.
