How to Crochet a Spiderweb Halloween Wreath: Free Pattern & PDF
· admin
A spiderweb Halloween wreath brings handmade color to a fall door. This design starts with a black yarn-wrapped form, then adds an orange eight-spoke crochet web, curled orange and purple ruffles, and a small dangling spider. The free six-page printable pattern keeps the web rounds and assembly steps together.
At a glance: US crochet terms · approximately 30 cm (12 in) across · 3.75 mm and 2.75 mm hooks · eight web posts per round · eight ruffle strips · one stuffed crochet spider. Gauge is flexible; fit the pieces to your wreath form.
Materials for the Halloween wreath
- One 30 cm (12 in) foam or straw wreath form.
- Approximately 100–130 g black worsted yarn for wrapping and the spider; 30–45 g each orange and deep purple worsted yarn for ruffles.
- About 20 g orange crochet cotton or fine yarn for the open web.
- 3.75 mm hook for ruffles and spider; 2.75 mm hook for web; yarn needle, stitch marker, scissors, sewing pins, and a small amount of stuffing.
Choose yarn colors with enough contrast to show the web against the doorway. Measure the inside opening of your form before fastening off the web; the final round can be adjusted to fit.
US crochet abbreviations
ch = chain; sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; tr = treble crochet; sl st = slip stitch; inc = two sc in one stitch; dec = sc two stitches together.
Step 1: Wrap the wreath form
Tie black worsted yarn at the back of the form. Wind it snugly around the ring, keeping each turn beside the previous one so the base no longer shows. Work all the way around, secure the end on the back with a yarn needle, and smooth any uneven wraps. The web and ruffles will be sewn through this covering later.
Step 2: Crochet the eight-spoke spiderweb
With orange crochet cotton and a 2.75 mm hook, work joined rounds. The first ch 3 of a dc round counts as its first dc; the first ch 4 of a tr round counts as its first tr. Stack each tall stitch above the corresponding tall stitch of the previous round.
- Round 1: Work 8 sc in a magic ring; join to the first sc. 8 sc.
- Round 2: Ch 3, ch 2; work (dc in next sc, ch 2) seven times. Join to the top of the starting ch 3. 8 dc posts.
- Round 3: Ch 3, ch 4; work (dc in next dc, ch 4) seven times. Join to the top of ch 3. 8 dc posts.
- Round 4: Ch 4, ch 6; work (tr in next dc, ch 6) seven times. Join to the top of ch 4. 8 tr posts.
- Round 5: Ch 4, ch 8; work (tr in next tr, ch 8) seven times. Join to the top of ch 4. 8 tr posts.

Pin the eight outer posts to equally spaced points on the inner edge of the wrapped form. The web should lie open and gently taut. If it is too small, add one more round of eight tr posts separated by ch 10. If it is too large, stop after Round 4 or shorten the last chain spaces. Leave a long tail for sewing.
Step 3: Make orange and purple crochet ruffles
Make eight curled strips: four orange and four purple. With the 3.75 mm hook, ch 25. For Row 1, sc in the second chain from the hook and across; turn. You have 24 sc. For Row 2, ch 3 (counts as a dc) and work 2 more dc in the first sc. Then make 3 dc in each remaining sc. You have 72 dc. Fasten off with a long sewing tail.
The extra double crochets make the strip curl. Do not block it flat. Set the eight foundation edges around the outer back edge of the wreath, alternating colors. Adjust the foundation length if your form needs shorter or longer sections. Pin first, then sew through the flat base row into the black wrapping, overlapping the strip ends slightly.
Step 4: Crochet the little hanging spider
Use black worsted yarn and the 3.75 mm hook. Work in continuous rounds with a marker:
- Body: 6 sc in a magic ring (6); inc around (12); (sc, inc) six times (18); sc around for two rounds (18 each); (sc, dec) six times (12); stuff lightly; dec around (6), fasten off and close.
- Head: 6 sc in a magic ring (6); inc around (12); sc around (12); dec around (6). Stuff lightly, close, and sew to the front of the body.
- Eight legs: For each leg, ch 14, then sl st in the second chain from the hook and along the remaining chain (13 sl st). Stitch four legs to each side of the body, bending them a little as you sew.
Embroider two small orange French-knot eyes and a curved smile. Secure all face yarn on the inside rather than using loose beads.
Step 5: Assemble and hang the wreath

Mark eight even points around the form’s inner edge. Sew one outer web post to each mark with several stitches, keeping the center level and the chain arches open. Stitch the alternating ruffle bases to the outer back edge, letting their curled tops roll toward the front without covering the web.
With black yarn, ch approximately 38 for a hanging cord and secure it between the spider body and the bottom of the wreath. Adjust until the entire spider is visible. For the top hanger, ch 30, join into a loop with a sl st, work a sl st in each chain, and sew it securely to the top back of the form. Test the weight on a hook before trimming tails.
Fit and finishing tips
- Web sagging? Shorten its final chain arches or shift the eight anchor points outward slightly. Keep tension even around the ring.
- Gap between ruffles? Overlap the foundation ends or add a short matching section.
- Display: Use indoors or in a sheltered dry entryway, away from heat and open flames. Make sure the hanging loop and spider are firmly stitched.
