How to Crochet a Floral Fiesta Garland: Free Pattern & PDF
· admin
Make a colorful Floral Fiesta Garland with coiled roses, wisteria, pansies, carnations, daisies and green leaves. Hang it along a mantel, around a mirror or across a window. This written guide uses US crochet terms; the seven-page printable PDF and free product page are linked below.
At a glance: Easy skill level · finished length approximately 90 in (228.5 cm), excluding hanging loops · 5.5 mm (US I/9) hook · 8 roses · 5 wisteria clusters · 10 pansies · 4 carnations · 6 daisies · 20 leaves.

Materials and color key
Use medium-weight acrylic yarn in eight colors. The quantities below are approximate amounts used in the sample; a ball of each color gives you room to work and weave in ends.
- A — Spring Green: 84 yd (77 m), for the hanging strand and leaves.
- B — Saffron: 28 yd (26 m), for pansy and daisy centers.
- C — Persimmon: 110 yd (100 m), for carnations.
- D — Pretty n Pink: 60 yd (55 m), for the daisy petals.
- E — Shocking Pink: 113 yd (103 m), for roses.
- F — Turqua: 28 yd (26 m), for some pansy petals.
- G — Delft Blue: 40 yd (36 m), for the remaining pansy petals.
- H — Orchid: 89 yd (81 m), for wisteria clusters.
You will also need a 5.5 mm (US I/9) hook or the size needed for gauge, a yarn needle and stitch markers. Gauge: 12 single crochets and 15 rows measure 4 in (10 cm). Swatch if you want the finished strand to match the approximate length.
US stitch abbreviations and notes
ch = chain; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; tr = treble crochet; sl st = slip stitch; sp = space; RS = right side. For a picot, ch 3 and sl st in the first of those chains.
A beginning ch 2 does not count as a stitch. A beginning ch 3 counts as a dc unless stated otherwise. Join rounds with a sl st to the first stitch unless the instructions say differently. An asterisk marks the part to repeat.
Step 1: Crochet eight roses
With color E, ch 27. For row 1 on the right side, make a dc in the fourth chain from the hook; the three skipped chains count as the first dc. Work one dc in every chain up to the last chain, then one hdc in the last chain. Turn. Count: 25 stitches.
For row 2, ch 3. Repeat this sequence to the end: 3 dc in each of the next three dc, then sl st in the following dc. Fasten off. Coil the ruffled strip from one end to form a rose, keeping the center snug and letting the outer petals open. Sew through the underside of several layers to secure it. Repeat for eight roses.
Step 2: Make five wisteria clusters
With color H, ch 4 and join to form a ring. Round 1: Ch 1, work 7 sc in the ring and join to the first sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the first sc, then ch 10. Beginning in the second chain from the hook, work 3 sc in each of the nine chains. For each of the next six base stitches, work a sc, ch 10 and 3 sc in each of the nine chains back toward the ring. Join to the first sc and fasten off. Gently coil the seven ruffled strands separately to give each cluster its wisteria shape.
Step 3: Make ten two-color pansies
Make four pansies with B and F, and six with B and G. With B, ch 4 and join into a ring. Round 1: Ch 1; work (2 sc in the ring, ch 2) twice, followed by (2 sc in the ring, ch 5) three times. Join to the first sc and fasten off.
Round 2: Join F or G in the first ch-2 space. Ch 2 and work (2 hdc, picot, 2 hdc) in that space. Skip the next sc and sl st in the following sc; make another (2 hdc, picot, 2 hdc) in the next ch-2 space. For each of the three ch-5 spaces, skip the next sc, sl st in the following sc and work (1 hdc, 9 dc, 1 hdc) in the ch-5 space. Skip the next sc, sl st in the following sc, join to the first hdc and fasten off.
Step 4: Crochet four layered carnations
With C, ch 5, leaving a long beginning tail, and join into a ring. Round 1: Ch 1; work 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc and 3 tr in the ring. Join to the first sc.
- Round 2: Work behind round 1. Sl st in the ring between the two sc, ch 3; sl st between the two hdc, ch 3; sl st between the two dc, ch 3; sl st between the first two tr, ch 3; sl st after the final tr, ch 3. Join to the first sl st. You have five ch-3 loops.
- Round 3: In each ch-3 loop work (ch 1, 5 dc, sl st) to create five small petals.
- Round 4: Behind the previous petals, ch 1 and sc in the same space as the last sl st. Repeat (ch 5, sl st between the next two petals) four times; ch 5 and join to make five ch-5 loops.
- Round 5: Work (ch 1, 2 dc, 4 tr, 2 dc, sl st) into each ch-5 loop. Five larger petals form.
- Round 6: Working behind those petals, make five ch-7 loops in the same way as round 4.
- Round 7: Work (ch 1, 3 dc, 5 tr, 3 dc, sl st) into each ch-7 loop. Join and fasten off.
Thread the long beginning tail into your needle and gather the center tightly closed. Repeat until you have four carnations.

Step 5: Crochet six two-layer daisies
With B, ch 2. Round 1: Work 5 sc in the second chain and join. Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each sc around and join for 10 sc. Fasten off.
Round 3: Join D to the first sc, ch 1 and sc in the same stitch. Repeat five times: ch 7; from the third chain, work hdc, hdc, then dc in each of the next three chains. Skip one sc of round 2 and sc in the next. Join to the first sc. This forms five petals.
Round 4: Work behind round 3. Ch 1 and sc into a previously skipped sc of round 2. Repeat the same ch-7 petal five times, anchoring each petal in the next unused sc of round 2 and skipping the adjacent sc of round 3. Join and fasten off. The new five petals alternate with the first layer.
Step 6: Make ten large leaves and ten small leaves
Large leaf: With A, ch 8. Starting in the second chain, sc, hdc in each of the next two chains, dc in each of the next two, hdc in the next, and 5 hdc in the final chain. Continue down the other side of the foundation with hdc, dc in each of the next two chains, hdc in each of the next two and sc in the final chain. Join and fasten off. Make ten.
Small leaf: With A, ch 5. From the second chain work sc, hdc, dc. In the final chain work (2 hdc, ch 2, sl st in the second chain from the hook, 2 hdc). Along the opposite side work dc, hdc, sc; join to the first sc and fasten off. Make ten.
Step 7: Crochet the hanging strand
With A, ch 278. On the right side, make a hdc in the ninth chain from the hook. The eight skipped chains become the first hanging loop. Work one hdc in each remaining chain to the end. Ch 8 and sl st into the bottom of the final hdc to form the second hanging loop. Fasten off. Count: 270 hdc and two ch-8 loops.
Optional corner loops: If you are decorating a mirror or frame, measure across its top. Fold the strand in half to locate the center and mark points on either side that match the measured width. Join A at each marker, ch 10 and sl st into the same spot; fasten off.
Step 8: Arrange and finish the garland
Lay the hanging strand right side up. Distribute the 8 roses, 5 wisteria clusters, 10 pansies, 4 carnations, 6 daisies and 20 leaves along it. Move the pieces until the colors and flower sizes look balanced.
With A and a yarn needle, sew each motif to the right side of the strand. Leave approximately 1 in (2.5 cm) of plain strand visible at both ends, excluding the loops. Weave in every tail and check that the flowers are secure before hanging.
