Bunny Crochet Ring Rattle with a Ruffled Collar
· admin
This bunny crochet ring rattle has a large round head, long folded ears and a small ruffled collar above its covered wooden ring. Its face is embroidered rather than made from separate eyes. The Anna Ushakova design differs from the earlier wooden-ring bunny on this site through its collar, head scale and sleeve construction.

Materials and gauge
About 90 yd of sport cotton-blend yarn plus 5 yd for the collar, 2 mm hook, 6 cm wooden ring, optional enclosed 24 mm rattle component, filling, black embroidery yarn, needle and scissors. Source yarn: YarnArt Jeans. Gauge: 24 sc × 25 rows per 10 cm.
Work the round head
Use US terms and continuous rounds. Start with 6 sc in a magic ring and increase by six per round until round 8 reaches 48. Work seven plain rounds, rounds 9–15, at forty-eight stitches. Use a marker and avoid adding a slip-stitch join at the end of those spiral rounds.
Rounds 16–21 reduce by six each time: 42, 36, 30, 24, 18 and 12. Add filling and the optional enclosed sound component before the opening becomes too small. The printed last line says six sc with a total of six, but six plain sc cannot reduce twelve stitches to six. Use six decreases for round 22 as an explicit arithmetic correction, then leave the long attachment tail.
Make two long ears
Begin each ear with 6 sc, increase to 12, then work (2 sc, inc) four times for 16. Rounds 4–11 stay at sixteen. Round 12 is (6 sc, dec) twice for 14, followed by a plain fourteen-stitch round.
The next printed decrease line gives (4 sc, dec) twice but lists twelve, leaving two of the fourteen base stitches unaccounted for. For an explicit fourteen-to-twelve reduction, this guide uses (5 sc, dec) twice. Work a plain twelve round, then (4 sc, dec) twice to ten. Leave the ears unstuffed and keep a sewing tail.

Cover the wooden ring
The source sleeve is a flat rectangle. Chain 25 and work twenty-four sc per row for nine rows. Wrap it around the ring and adjust the row count if needed so it hugs the actual ring circumference. Sew the long edges together on the inner side of the ring, keeping the seam smooth.
Choose a ring intended for the planned use and inspect its surface. The crochet instructions do not establish whether an arbitrary wooden craft ring is appropriate for chewing. Keep the sleeve seam and all attachment tails inaccessible inside the finished join.
Make the ruffled collar
Chain 20 in the accent color. The source builds fullness by working two dc into each foundation position, then another row of dc increases. Keep the starting-chain convention consistent with the original close-up so the ends remain level. Leave a sewing tail long enough to join the collar into a small ring around the neck area.
Sew the bunny head to the middle of the covered ring with several passes. Fold each ear lengthwise at its base and attach it around head rounds 4–5. Place both before sewing so their tips and angles match. Sew the collar around the head-to-sleeve join and tack it at several points so it does not hang loosely.
Embroider the expression
The source puts the horizontal nose line between head rounds 11–12, about four sc wide. Add a short central line downward, then embroider the two eyes using the source face photograph. Optional blush is a finishing detail; it should not replace the securely stitched facial features.

Inspect the attachment
Check that the head does not wobble at a narrow unsupported neck, that both ear seams are firm and that the ruffle is attached at multiple points. The source is a making pattern rather than a finished-toy test report. Use supervised handling and recheck the ring, sleeve and seams regularly.
Frequently asked questions
Which two counts are corrected?
The final head round uses six decreases, and the fourteen-to-twelve ear round uses five sc plus a decrease twice. Both corrections are explained in the article.
Is the ring sleeve made in the round?
No. It is a twenty-four-stitch flat rectangle wrapped around the ring and sewn together.
How is the collar kept in place?
Its ends form a ring and it is sewn to the head at several points after covering the head-to-sleeve join.
