Dip Edge Crochet Basket with Separate Loop Handles
· admin
The Dip Edge crochet basket has a broad round base, a contrasting band at the top and two separate loops threaded through small openings. Its large scale comes from using two strands of blanket yarn together. Unlike a basket with wide cut-out handles, this design leaves four small chain-one spaces and adds the carrying loops afterward. The original Bernat pattern supplies a 104-stitch body and a clear measurement checkpoint for changing colors.

Materials and finished measurements
The source lists Bernat Blanket in Dark Gray (10044), approximately 500 yd / 455 m, and Moss (10803), approximately 140 yd / 128 m. That corresponds to three listed main-color balls and one contrast ball in the original 300 g, 220 yd format. Use a 9 mm / US M/13 hook and a stitch marker.
The gauge is seven sc and seven rows per 4 inches with two strands held together. The finished basket is approximately 14 inches / 35.5 cm in diameter and 9½ inches / 24.5 cm high. The source photographs show a yellow contrast rim even though the written materials name Moss. Choose your preferred contrast while keeping the yarn weight consistent.
Increase the joined base
The instructions use US single crochet. Every round joins with a slip stitch into the first sc. With two strands of A, chain two and place eight sc into the second chain. The following base rounds add eight stitches each: 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56 and 64.
Continue the same increase system for five more rounds, ending at 104 sc. Space one additional plain sc between increase points on each successive round. Count at the join before moving on; the beginning chain and closing slip stitch are not extra body stitches.

Turn upward and add the dip edge
Work the next round in back loops only, one sc per stitch. Place a marker at its end. Resume ordinary sc through both loops on the following round and continue until the wall measures 8 inches / 20.5 cm from the marked turning round.
Change to two strands of B at the end of the last main-color round. Work two complete contrast rounds before making the handle openings. The wall remains at 104 sc; there are no additional side increases after the base. Measuring from the marked bend keeps the base thickness from being accidentally included in the wall height.
Make four small handle holes
The opening round begins with 21 sc, then ch 1 and skip one stitch. Work eight sc, make the next ch-one opening, work 42 sc, make another opening, work eight sc and make the fourth opening. Finish the remaining 21 sc and join.
There are four skipped stitches, each replaced by one chain. The round still has 104 working positions: 100 sc and four chain spaces. On the next round, work one sc in each sc and each chain-one space. Add one more plain sc round and fasten off.
Thread and crochet the handles
With two B strands, make ch 26. Thread the chain through the first hole and back out through the second hole of that pair. Join the chain into an untwisted ring with a slip stitch. Work one sc in each chain around the handle, rotating the chain through the holes as needed, then join and secure the ends.
Repeat through the second pair of holes. Check that both loops face the same way and have the same length before hiding the tails. The chain is crocheted after being threaded through the wall, so it remains linked to the basket rather than being a separate ring sewn on at two points.
For the finishing check, stand the empty basket on a table and smooth the lower turn. Then add light supplies gradually. Changing the hook or yarn can soften the structure, so evaluate the actual basket rather than assuming the photographed shape is automatic.
